A little known fact:
None of the people featured on this page receive any payment for doing what they do in
Guiding. Most have 'real jobs' and all are volunteers, who give up their spare time to provide
opportunities for the girls in their units. For them, Guides does not stop when the weekly meeting
ends, as they are constantly planning the next activity or event, trying out crafts or visiting
faraway campsites to make sure they're suitable...not to mention the paperwork...!

Guider in Charge
Recently spotted reliving her youth and
swinging in the trees (letting in the breeze)!
Kestrel has been with 1st Buckfastleigh Guides
since 1985.
Assistant Guider
Likes sheep and snorkelling but not
the number 37. Fuzz used to be a
Guider in Dorset before coming to
Devon for University and, well, staying!
District Commissioner
Back to Guiding after a (we'll just say 'long') gap!
Alison oversees Guiding in the Ashburton District,
which from what we understand mostly involves
forms! She is also the Ashburton District Senior
Section Guider.
Trefoil Guild
A former Guider with 1st Buckfastleigh
Guides, Badger is still a regular visitor,
testing people for badges, helping with
events and camping with us.
Guider in Charge with 3rd
Newton Abbot (SA) Guides
(and Bess the dog!)
An inseparable pair, they often
accompany us (and sometimes they
bring their Guides!) on camps and trips.
'Kestrel 2' is also our Division Commissioner
Assistant Guider with 3rd Newton
Abbot (SA) Guides
Our infamous Camp First Aider (complete
with a grand collection of hats and garden
gnomes) likes to be in charge of the
fire...should we be concerned?!
Mr Kestrel
One of the great species - the 'Husband of a Guider' he has
willingly sacrificed his spare room (and attic, and dining
room table...) to the cause of Guiding and is invaluable to
have around, especially for providing the latest weather
forecast whilst we are in a wet field!
Unit Helper
Flamingo has been helping 1st
Buckfastleigh Guides for 18 years now
- often ends up 'supervising' the
kitchen-based activities but claims it's
nothing to do with the free samples!
Assistant Guider
Buckfastleigh Guides is Blue Jay's
initiation into the world of Guiding!
She's been with us for two terms now,
so we can't have scared her yet!
Young Leader
Often having to be reminded
that she is not a Guide,
Glow-worm is zany and loves to
have fun. One day she'll
remember her neckerchief...
Kookaburra
Ex Assistant Guider
Highly competitive and with a promising QM
career ahead of her, Kookaburra was once a
Buckfastleigh Guide herself.  Sadly for us she
has moved away again, but she promises to
be back to cook for us on camp!
Young Leader
Quiet but certainly not
shy, Firefly loves to have
fun but has a serious
side, too. Firefly
represented Devon
Guides on a trip to
Switzerland in 2008.
