Buckfastleigh Guides are back from the Easter Holidays and spent the first
meeting finishing off clauses for Interest Badges. Lots were gained this evening!
You may have noticed that some seemingly random numbers have
appeared at the bottom of some of our webpages. This is for a quiz that the
Guides are doing, and is nothing to worry about!
On the Mayday Bank Holiday, some very hardcore Guides (and Guiders!)
gained some experience of what it is like to sleep rough by spending the night
sleeping in a
cardboard box.
1st Buckfastleigh Guides have been holding several meetings away from the
meeting place this term, including a cookout at Bigadon, 'Cardboard Box
Cooking' with Ashburton Senior Section, a trip to Stover Country Park with
Bovey Tracey Guides, and a walk around Landscove to practice our
map-reading skills.
1st Buckfastleigh Guides have just returned from a very tiring but fabulous
Hurdlestone Challenge weekend where our three teams did very well and had
lots of fun.
You may have noticed that we haven't had many new photographs on the
website for a while. This is because Fuzz has been poorly and has not been
able to attend meetings. Never fear though, because she is back with us
now, and so is the camera...!
At 1st Buckfastleigh Guides we are very lucky to have a Guide whose Dad is
an Outdoor Activities Instructor, and so we are looking forward to spending
the next two meetings kayaking on the River Dart!
On the 5th September, we joined Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Senior Section,
Adults and Trefoil Guild Members from all over Teignbridge Division for our
Centenary Launch Party.
This term, Buckfastleigh Guides have been joined by 1 returning and 5 new
members.  As part of the
Guiding Centenary, we will all be doing activities
and working towards the
Adventure 100.
15 Guides, 2 Young Leaders and 4 Guiders went to Wembley Arena to join
23 000 other Guides and Guiders for the
Big Gig!
Buckfastleigh Guides are back after the Summer break, during which we spent
a great week
camping at Taw Bottom.
On a dry night in November, we held a meeting by torchlight at Stover
Country Park. We did a scavenger hunt, laid & followed trails and enjoyed
some hot soup with some campfire songs!
Members of Buckfastleigh Guides are joining every other member of
Girlguiding UK by taking part in the
Adventure 100 Challenge, and have
begun to amass their points already!
The Centenary Show was a resounding success! There was standing room only
and we raised £300 to help us with Centenary camps.
Lots of members of Buckfastleigh Guides attended the Division's Thinking Day
Service at Buckfast Abbey. Three Guides formed an excellent Colour Party
and several others represented us with readings and collections.
In December we had to cancel our visit to the local Residential Home to sing
carols for the residents. Instead we visited them in March and sang a selection
of traditional and modern campfire songs for them.
Three members of Buckfastleigh Guides arranged an Easter party for us on the
last evening of the Spring term.  By organising this party, these girls have
completed a clause for their Baden-Powell Award.
Buckfastleigh Guides finished off the term with a Christmas party that was
organised by two Guides in order to gain their Party Planner badge.
Everybody dressed up and we enjoyed lots of festive activities, including a
visit from Santa and his reindeer!
This term, Buckfastleigh Guides have been very busy rehearsing and preparing
for their Centenary Show to be held near Thinking Day. The purpose of the
show is to raise some money to make Centenary camps more affordable.
